Special playlist
inspired by
the Hermès jukebox
Ginza Maison Hermès has been transformed into a jukebox for the month of February. So, what kind of music should we play on it? We asked five artists to each choose LPs inspired by this special Hermès jukebox.
Axel de Beaufort
Creative director, Ateliers Horizons
This album by La Femme embodies the spirit of the Hermès jukebox. It’s twisted and disruptive, with a unique creative lens. It’s even more special because it was the first LP we ever played on the jukebox at Horizons, the Hermès bespoke workshop. If you listen to only one song on the album, make it “La Femme”.
Thierry Planelle
Sound designer & music curator
I arrange the music for the Hermès men’s universe fashion shows. For the jukebox, I selected two very French albums. First is an older album, Histoire de Melody Nelson. It was the first concept album in the chanson genre and is a brilliant fusion of classical music and the pop music of the time. It is Serge Gainsbourg’s masterwork, a cult album that influenced such artists as Portishead, Beck, Pulp, and Massive Attack. The other album is Moon Safari, the 1998 debut album by the French duo Air. They belong to a generation of electronic music that heralded an explosion in French house and electro. The two “Sexy Boys” of Air, with their long instrumental tracks and pop hits, will always be 25 years old to me!
YOSHIROTTEN
Graphic artist & art director
I create graphics and provide art direction for La Lanterne d’Hermès. My first encounter with the Hermès men’s universe fashion show and the Hermès jukebox was at “Step Into the Frame”, a 2019 men’s event in London. As the artistic director, it was also my first time working closely with RADIO HERMÈS. The albums I selected symbolize my memories with Hermès and feature songs that I’d want to hear playing on the jukebox.
Shuta Hasunuma
Musician & artist
I composed the score for one of Hermès’s documentary films. Music is something that’s all around me, all the time. That’s why I chose LPs that invite you to dive into the music. I love the creativity of the musicians, the warmth of the instruments, the talented playing of the performers—the experience of hearing these songs played on the jukebox is one of a kind. These albums remind me of the power of music to lift my spirits, no matter how I’m feeling. I hope they do the same for you.
Moeka Shiotsuka (Hitsujibungaku)
Musician
& guitarist-vocalist for Hitsujibungaku
As a member of the alternative rock trio Hitsujibungaku, I’m interested in exploring new worlds. I first stepped into the world of Hermès during the Ismaïl Bahri exhibition at Ginza Maison Hermès in 2019. I wandered up to the upper floors of this glittering building of glass blocks, where I stumbled upon an exhibition of artworks that quietly embody the relationship between light and shadow. I felt as though someone I’d always looked up to had confided in me a little secret. I want to recreate that thrilling moment for you with two albums that are little secrets of my own.
