Secrets of GINZA
MAISON HERMÈS

The secret of the mosaic
This month, we turn our attention to the hidden secret of the floor. The interior of Ginza Maison Hermès was designed by interior designer Rena Dumas, wife of former Hermès chairperson Jean-Louis Dumas. Just as in Hermès Faubourg Paris Saint-Honoré, visitors entering Ginza Maison Hermès are welcomed by the Hermès Ex-Libris emblem—the mark of the maison (house of Hermes).
In keeping with the spatial rhythm of the iconic “lantern”, Dumas made some minor adjustments to this emblem. As you walk further into the store, you may notice that, unlike the Paris store, the floor is not entirely done in mosaic. Instead, light-toned monochrome stones form the base of the design, with only part of the emblem composed of mosaic—finding these sections can be a delightful surprise in itself!
